An Adjutant is a junior staff officer who acts as an aide to certain senior officers holding the rank of Commander and above. Unlike an enlisted yeoman, an Adjutant has the authority to act on the behalf of the officer they serve, and can be sent by that officer to deliver orders to their subordinate personnel, even if those personnel should outrank the Adjutant themselves. Few officers below the billet of Executive Officer are assigned an Adjutant.
